COMPOSITE BONDING /
COMPOSITE VENEERS IN CARDIFF
Composite veneers, aka "Composite Bonding"
in Cardiff and South Wales
If you’re considering composite bonding or composite veneers in Cardiff and South Wales, we offer a conservative, natural-looking approach to cosmetic dentistry that focuses on enhancing your smile — not changing who you are.
Composite dentistry is one of the most popular cosmetic dental treatments in Wales, helping patients improve chipped, worn, uneven or gapped teeth with minimal or often no drilling. At the South Wales Specialist Oral Surgery and Dental Implant Centre, restorative treatment is carefully planned and delivered by Dr Richard Field, with equal emphasis on long-term dental health, function, and aesthetics.

So what is Composite veneers, aka "Composite Bonding"??
The terms composite bonding and composite veneers are often used interchangeably, which can understandably be confusing. In reality, they refer to the same advanced composite resin technique, with the difference relating simply to how much of the tooth surface is covered, rather than two separate treatments.
Composite is a high-quality, tooth-coloured resin that is applied directly to the teeth, then carefully shaped, layered, and polished to blend seamlessly with your natural smile. It can be used in a very minimal way — such as repairing a small chip, closing a gap, or subtly reshaping an edge — or applied across more of the front surface of the tooth to improve colour, shape, proportion, and mild alignment concerns.
The guiding principle is always the same:
the composite will cover only the appropriate amount of the natural tooth required to achieve the desired outcome — no more, no less.
In practice:
-
Some teeth may need only subtle edge bonding
-
Others may benefit from a full front-surface composite veneer
-
Many smiles use a combination of both, blended seamlessly for a natural result
Because composite dentistry is additive, it is typically highly conservative, with minimal or no removal of natural tooth structure. In many cases, treatment can be completed in a single appointment, offering immediate, natural-looking results that are adaptable over time.

Longevity and Comparison to Ceramic Veneers...
Composite bonding and composite veneers, if properly maintained, typically look their best for around 5–7 years and, if they chip or wear, can usually be repaired rather than fully replaced. They are a conservative option, often placed with little or no tooth preparation, although when they are eventually replaced the composite must be carefully removed, meaning the teeth will not return exactly to their original state. Ceramic veneers generally last longer, and maintain their colour better — often lasting 10–15 years — but usually require some permanent tooth preparation from the outset and, if damaged, must be fully replaced rather than repaired. The choice between the two depends on whether flexibility and conservatism or maximum longevity is the priority.
