Gum recession can be a visually distressing issue for patients

Gum recession can occur prematurely causing exposure of the root surface of the tooth. It can be caused by brushing too hard and also as a byproduct of orthodontic treatment. Mr Mallorie has been performing gum grafting procedures since 2011 and has trained extensively in this field under some of the top surgeons in the World so he is well armed with a number of predictable techniques to help regenerate gums to help enhance their aesthetic appearance.

can anyone have gum grafting?

Not necessarily. In order to be a good candidate for gum grafting you must have the following:

- Very good oral hygiene (effective daily interdental cleaning and twice daily brushing)

- A dental hygienist who you see regularly.

- Have had a dental checkup recently and been told that your gum health is stable.

Can all types of gum recession be corrected?

If the triangles of gum are intact between your teeth and the recession is affecting the central sections of the teeth then these are usually good sites to treat. BUT, if you have lost the peaks of gum from between your teeth then these are not possible to regenerate. See the two examples below:

WHAT DOES THE GUM GRAFTING PROCEDURE INVOLVE?

Gum grafting involves a surgical procedure performed under local anaesthetic where some gum is harvested from the roof of your mouth, aka your palate, and it is then transferred to the site where the gum has receded. If you have multiple sites of gum recession in different areas of your mouth then you may require multiple sessions to treat the differerent sites. Recovery time is approximately 10-14 days and it takes around 6 months for the new gum architecture to fully mature.

I'm nervous of having surgery...
